Roxy Podlogar Fine Art
I am profoundly drawn to the beauty of landscapes. I aim to capture my experience of the scenery around me through loose, expressive brush strokes. Utilizing the fluidity of watercolors, I immerse myself in the desert, seaside, or forest, painting en plein air to depict the fleeting interplay of light and shadow as it dances across the land and reflects on the water. Each piece invites the viewer to experience the moment as I felt it, where vibrant hues and dynamic strokes evoke emotion and a connection to the landscape.
Since 2016, my husband, Carl, and I sailed over 52,000 nautical miles on our catamaran, Sky Pond. We completed our circumnavigation of the Pacific Ocean in December of 2024. Our journey took us from Vietnam across the Pacific Ocean to Canada and Mexico before concluding in Australia. Carl and I now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
During my time as a live-aboard sailor, I became a self-taught watercolorist. Despite facing the challenges of isolation, confinement, and difficult ocean passages, I utilized plein-air techniques to capture iconic landscapes. My paintings reflect our voyages to Mexico, the Marquesas, Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia, New Zealand, and the Tuamotus.
